About Us

We affectionately call ourselves the Ferndale Genies.  We live in the far northwest corner of Washington state in Whatcom County, mostly in cities Bellingham and Ferndale.  We meet monthly on the third Wednesday at the Ferndale Library from 1:00 until 2:30 or 3:30.

We have Getting Started classes for four people at a time.  We cover some genealogy basics and hands-on time to practice using familysearch.org to add people to a tree and do basic research.

We have no fees and accept no donations.  All our services are free.  We are sponsored by the Ferndale Library which supports us with meeting space, copies and publicity.

Our aim is to help people learn about genealogy in a friendly open group by sharing information about local resources, online resources, local educational events, and basic genealogy techniques.
Our members generously help people who are getting started or just plain stuck.
