Whatcom GS.
How’s that for an abbreviation for Whatcom Genealogical Society? WGS, like most societies, is closed for the
summer. The next meeting will be in
September.
Ferndale Genies meet next Monday, June 17, at the
Ferndale Library. It starts at 1:00, set up
at 12:30. Coming early is a good time to
ask questions, especially about DNA. Been
busy with your genealogy? Bring
something to share or think of something you would like to know more about. We’ll meet throughout the summer.
Need a technology boost?
Cyndi Ingle has a free webinar at familytreewebinars.com probably
through next Tuesday. The syllabus is for
members only. Thomas MacEntee usually
has a 15% discount off the usual annual price of $50 (rounded up). Ask for help if you need it.
Our RootsMagic group continues to meet and
grow. You are welcome to join us to
consider if you want to use RootsMagic as your desktop software. Ask to be added to our Google group for
notices and discussion.
The next RootsMagic group meetings are from 1-4 PM at
the Ferndale Library on these dates.

I also want to repeat the announcements about Whatcom
Community College classes. “Writing Home” is a one-weekend class that
combines writing and family history. It’s pricey at $179 for a 12-hour
class over one weekend July 12-14. Two Genies have registered. The details are here: https://register.whatcomcommunityed.com/CourseStatus.awp?&course=19H8324058GA
Also, at least one Genie has registered for the August 14 Whatcom
Community College online course called "Genealogy Basics". It
a 24-hour (not all in one day) instructor-led course. The
description is just what you would expect. The tuition is $109 and
session start dates are June 15, July 17, or August 14. Check it
out! https://www.ed2go.com/whatcom/SearchResults.aspx and
search for genealogy. I can’t make a recommendation but it might be
right up your alley.
See you Monday. Judith
