Genies Monthly Meeting
Monday, 9/16. 1:00 at the Ferndale
Library. Don’t miss it!
My mailbox is full so I’ll
start with some personal news. David’s cousin’s
adopted daughter has been a topic of discussion and work by David and Cheryl. Now her mother has surfaced and the father’s
name is known. Whoopee! Rick Bell is alive and well in North Carolina
and the foundation has been poured for their new house. Lastly, Sylvia is back from the east and
Linda B. and family are off to Prince Edward Island to visit the homeland of
her husband’s ancestors. No grass grows under
our feet.
Linda B. and I are planning
for RootsTech 2020 next February in Salt Lake City. Maybe some others will be to. Registration opens on September 18th
and hotel discounts have been announced.
This is the largest genealogy conference anywhere, approaching 30,000
participants. Details are here: https://www.rootstech.org/
The Skagit Valley Genealogical
Society September program is about DNA Painter.
This website is used to compare your DNA to others. It’s kind of technical so you won’t hear me
talking about it unless I learn an awful lot at this presentation. Come this Saturday 9/14 at the Burlington
Library from 1:00 until 3.
Lastly, we are giving a shout
out to DNA expert CeCe Moore. The
headline is “Idaho man freed in wrongful conviction case after 20 years in prison.” It’s the first time that genealogy has been used
successfully in a wrongful conviction case.
Way to go, CeCe. This case gives us one more reason to opt-in
at GedMatch to give law enforcement access to our DNA. Previously they could use all 1.5 million profiles. Since we have been required to opt-in, they
only have access to 100,000.
See you at the Genies meeting!
